2025 Application Timeline

Paint Rollers in Green, Red, Orange and Blue

Sandusky County Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors has announced that applications will be received in 2025 for future new home construction projects. The open application period for these projects will be June 2, 2025 through July 3, 2025. Details on the lot locations will be shared in late May 2025. A published list of documentation required as well as updated income guidelines will be made available at the same time lot locations are announced. The list will be made available on our website as well as shared at community partners throughout the county.

During the open enrollment period, applicants will create a partner profile in our online application system and submit their documentation online. This will allow for an easier application process and save applicants time and money from having to print multiple pages of documents. Applicants without online access may contact our office to schedule an appointment to bring in their documentations and have it uploaded for them. At the commencement of this open enrollment period, our homeowner selection committee will review applications and then start the selection process. Over the summer months selected applicants should expect to attend an in person interview and participate in a scheduled home visit. Details surrounding application approval will be shared throughout the selection process.

General Selection Criteria

Habitat uses three criteria to determine whether or not a family is ready to take part in the homeownership program.

  • Need

Families often need a home because their current housing isn't viable. It may be overcrowded, too expensive, structurally unsound, or located in a dangerous neighborhood.

  • Ability to pay

You must be able to afford a monthly mortgage payment. Consideration of credit history and debt to income ratio is also evaluated. Affordability will be discussed as part of the application process.

  • Willingness to partner

Habitat homeowners work on their own homes as well as homes for others and may volunteer in other ways around the community. Education classes related to homeownership are also included as part of sweat equity.
