Sandusky County Habitat for Humanity
29 Years Serving Sandusky County 1989-2018
Sandusky County Habitat for Humanity was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in 1989. Rev. Robert Quillen served as the first President of the affiliate, Julaine Stricker was the Secretary and Joseph Loughlin served as the Treasurer. Ten additional people served on the Board of Trustees and eleven churches in Sandusky County were sponsoring churches. The affiliate existed as an all-volunteer organization until 2004 when the Board approved the hiring of a part-time Executive Director. The office is located in First Presbyterian Church in Fremont and we are so grateful for their generosity.
The affiliate has served 25 families in Sandusky County with new and/or rehab homes. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With our help, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families. Presently we have 13 homeowners, while others have had the joy of satisfying their mortgage. Six of the current homeowners live in Fremont, five in Clyde and two in Gibsonburg.
In addition to the homeowners in Sandusky County, we have helped 28.1 international families through the tithe donations by our affiliate to Habitat International in support of the global vision of “a world where everyone has a decent place to live.”
